| Save time and energy and get right down to the task of final tillering with a pre-shaped rough tillered hickory board stave. String grooves are already filed for you. Cut from hand selected vertical grain white (sapwood) hickory with a little brown core here and there. 72" long, handle area is 1" thick plus or minus 1/16" plenty of wood for a rigid handle as is or even a glue on riser. The grain of the wood runs 75-90% vertically with the board. An economical way to make a good hunting bow from affordable materials without having to search through mountians of boards for the right stuff!! Goes great with our rawhide or linen backing strips. Makes a strong bow with or without a backing. For bows over 50-55# a backing of linen or rawhide is strongly suggested. | Tapered Hickory board stave Core. This The Tapered Hickory board stave core is simply a bow blank that is tapered from fades to tips in thickness. This Core is best used with the barrell tapered bamboo backing , regular bamboo backing strips, Barrell tapered hickory backing OR regular hickory backing strips. After glueing a backing on this stave it will be ready for shaping the sides. The bends in the limbs will be relativly correct with few hinges or stiff spots because it is machined tapered from fades to tips. You can get right to the process of Glueing a backing on and tillering your bow. This combination can be used to build straight profile bows. Reflex deflex bows as well as reflexed bows. After glueing simply work out the small hinges and stiff spots by scraping and rasping very small amounts of wood off of the belly side of the limbs. This core is roughly 1 1/2" wide all the way to the tips and is 68-72" in length. This stave must have a thicker backing as the growth rings are not suited for an unbacked bow or a cloth backing. However, used in conjunction with a bamboo backing or hickory backing strip it will make a durable and good shooting hunting or target bow. |
